Do you know what RSV is? How dangerous is it? And how is it transmitted?

In this clip, Dr. Apinan Jirajrit, a pediatrician from #ThonburiThawiWattanaHospital, will share information about the RSV virus, which is common in children, and how to prevent it with "pre-immunization," newly imported into Thailand!

Listen to this clip to clear up any doubts!

What is RSV? Understanding the RSV virus, which often causes respiratory infections in children, and can be as severe as bronchitis and pneumonia.

Can adults get RSV? Although it's more common in children, some older adults can also become infected and experience severe symptoms.

What is "pre-immunization" for RSV? How is it different from traditional vaccines? The doctor will explain that it's not a pathogen, but a pre-immunized immunity that works immediately upon injection to protect against RSV.

Who should get RSV immunization? Doctors recommend it for all healthy children under 8 months of age and at-risk infants under 12 months of age. This also applies to infants with underlying medical conditions, such as chronic lung disease (premature infants with weak lungs), congenital heart disease, or immunodeficiency.

How long does the pre-immunization last? This immunity lasts for approximately five months. Doctors recommend getting the shot between June and October, when RSV outbreaks begin, and the outbreak begins to subside in November and December.

What are the side effects of the pre-immunized RSV vaccine? Side effects are rare, but most commonly include pain and swelling at the injection site, or even fever in some individuals.

Advantages of the pre-immunized RSV vaccine: If it can prevent RSV infection, it can effectively reduce the severity of the disease (preventing infection by 70-78% and preventing severe disease by up to 80%).

Additional advice for those who haven't gotten the vaccine:
Wash your hands frequently and avoid crowded areas to reduce the risk of infection.

Prevention is better than cure. Let's understand and protect your child from RSV for the good health of everyone you love.
